She creates Performances with Wearable Sculptures and Art Theater. Besides she realizes exhibitions with theatrical installations, videos and photos.

With her performances she makes clear statements. Since the eighties she breaks through the well-defined gender role patterns of men and women and gives her feminist vision on women’s sexuality. For example, she designs clothing and wearable sculptures in which women emerge powerful, take the initiative and in which men emphasize their vulnerability. She involves theatrical elements such as movement theater, music, light and later also poetry. By enlarging and demolishing ideal images, I look for the emotion that lies behind these (self) images. The sculptures often undergo a transformation. Something happens to the sculptures, they change shape, are torn off, air is blown in. For example, I designed wearable sculptures with inflatable breasts and buttocks to denounce the makeable body. A ‘ballroom dress’ that turns out to be a prison and another one in which all the ‘beauty ideals’ such as long hair, red lips and large breasts and buttocks are torn off one by one.

My sources of inspiration are Federico Fellini, Pina Bausch, Fong Leng, Oscar Schlemmer (Bauhaus).

This book consists of different photoshoots that were taken from my performances with wearable sculptures between 1981 and 2008.”

Many full-page and full-colour photographs documenting performances of models wearing the creations of Schippers.

Hard cover, 28,5 x 21,5 cm, 114 not numbered pages, Amsterdam 2020

ISBN: 9789090336510

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0015/8656/1083/files/Schippers7FacesOfWomenWearableSculptures.jpg?v=1749746748
