“In the 1960s and 1970s, the rubber stamp played a very special role in art. It is the expression of an intellectual posture in which artists sought to distance themselves from the prevailing conventional notions of art within society and raise their voices within a societal context. Their ambition was to circumvent the market — in that their works or actions would not be commercially traded — and to democratise art. Small, rubber-stamp prints on transitory materials, to which only marginal value was attached, were a perfect medium to this end.” – Anne Thurmann-Jajes
