People on People

Raidt, Joseph + Sophia Beckmann

Regular price €12,00

“I am standing in the train during rush hour. Around me, a small wagon saturated with what seemed half the city’s population. Everyone squishing and squeezing up against one another. Each body — no longer fixed, but mutable. It begins simply. People climb on top of each other. Joints fold, limbs curl and bow, then detach and reattach elsewhere. Postures begin to reconfigure, tilting sideways, diagonally and backwards, any direction not yet occupied. There is no front or back. Bodies are melded and morphed, cradled in the contours of others.

‘People on People’ deconstructs the human body to shapes and transforms these into a collection of wearable sculptures. Within the making of these abstract extensions of the body, traditional garment construction is reimagined. What could it look like to wear your own body? To wear another’s body? To become another’s body? To merge bodies? To morph bodies?”

A zine of full-page, full-colour photographs that form “[a] visual documentation of the making of surrealist garments rooted in human anatomy”; these fantastic garments or wearable sculptures incorporate pieces of mannequins and casts of body parts.

Design by Beckmann.
