“The prolific French street artist OX creates posters and billboards that impact public spaces in surprising, thought-provoking ways. This is the first comprehensive monograph of his outstanding work.
Most of the work of French artist OX only exists for a few days. Appearing on city posters or billboards, it creates short-term yet powerful disturbances to the urban landscape. Despite the impact that OX's impressive art has made over the last thirty years, the reserved artist had previously preferred to let his images speak for themselves. Finally they have been captured in this first comprehensive monograph.
The city is OX's canvas and oversized billboards are his media of choice. He covers them with geometric or abstract compositions and mixes the styles of avant-garde movements with the world of commercial images. Some of his artworks are reminiscent of the paintings of Mark Rothko while others seem to be surreal dreams. All of them meld together perfectly with the public spaces for which they were created.
From 2000 to 2014, OX placed 300 or so of his works on public billboards around the world. The photographs shown in this book are all that is left of them and allow them to live on. These images, as well as insightful texts in French, German, and English, now give an international audience the opportunity to explore OX's art.”, hard cover, 304 pages, 17 x 25 cm, Leipzig Dresden 2015
