this ingenious work featuring photographs capturing and captured by the forces of nature consists of four publications in a plastic bag:
Sternenschrift: “Sternenschrift shows seven paths travelled by Bignia Wehrli’s father in the late summer [of] 2012 over the course of his workdays making hay in Sternenberg, as recorded by a GPS device. In the winter of 2014, using a camera and a specially developed instrument—the star pencil—the artist traced these paths with the light of a star. Using long exposure, the tracks of the star imprinted themselves on the negative”, 33,5 x 25 cm, 32 folded loose pages;
Sonnenzirkel(Rhein): “A pinhole camera with photographic paper travelled the 14,4 km distance along the Rhine from Sargans to Buchs on ten sunny days in August 2017, floating along the river and photographing the sun. The interplay between the river’s flow and the apparent movement of the sun in the sky produced ten photographs. They record the changing positions of the sun in the sky as circular forms of various sizes. Wind weather, water level, and obstructions (branches, stones. sandbars, etc.) also influenced the journeys and therefore also the resulting photographs”, 32 x 24 cm, 18 folded loose sheets;
Sonnezirkel (Töss): seven photographs produced with the same method described above, only now they describe a “journey from Wila to Winterhur, floating down the Töss river”, leporello format, 28 x 21 cm, 16 pages;
an accompanying textbook containing: an interview with the artist conducted by Oliver Kielmayer (in German), texts by Yasmin Afschar (in German) and Boyan Manchev (in English), and several reproduced b/w photographs, stapled, 22 x 16,5 cm, 32 pages, Zürich 2018
