A series of photographs of ‘Private’ signs in Bruges and surrounding areas. An exploration of the various ways in which Flemish landowners try to keep people off their property and, perhaps, a commentary on mankind’s tendency to lay exclusive claim to their surroundings. The signs collected in this work bear witness not only to social relationships between individuals, but also to the relationship between human beings and their (natural) environment. A few introductory sentences in Dutch explain how these signs were all encountered over the course of 17 walks in the area.
