A publication on the occasion of an exhibition at Amaanatdaari Space in Rasht, Iran, 2024, which involved a performance/installation centred around hugging and physical contact:
“This project emphasizes recognizing the discomfort that physical touch can bring and proposes an exercise in confronting that unease. Rather than pursuing a perfect result, it approaches the embrace as a conscious gesture—an attempt to reestablish a relationship between distant bodies, deliberately engaging the body and pushing it beyond the fear of contact.
The installation consisted of four elements: the book, a video, two life-sized fabric puppets, and eight framed works, all illustrating different hug variations. Visitors were invited to engage physically with the work by reading the instructions and enacting the gestures within the space. The puppets functioned as tools for practicing these variations.”
The book provides documentation of and instruction in several hug-based performances, explained in text and reproduced colour photographs, with coloured dots helping to orient the reader in their own practice.
