A Narrow Scene Of Hypothetical Circumstances

Jóhannsson, Sveinn Fannar

Regular price €25,00

“In A Narrow Scene of Hypothetical Circumstances we access a visual universe revolving around dismembered pieces of familiar objects. Sketches, pictures and materials are united into a steady flow of everyday examination, in which apparent contradictions—painstaking exactitude and violence, empathy and calculation—bubble away beneath the surface. Re-arrangement, representation and repression melt together on the border between construction and collapse, with an elegant sense of seriousness.”

Presenting a body of work, comprised of a series of photographs (full-colour or b/w) of dismembered pieces of furniture. All pieces were cut with the same tool, a manual handsaw. Physicality and destruction are seemingly driving forces, in relation to these habitual domestic objects. Expectation and familiarity lead the viewer to question the role and the utility what surrounds and supports our daily functioning.  With texts by Christopher Muller in English, Friedrich Tietjen in German and Caroline Ugelstad in Norwegian.
