Dutch Sweets
Dijkstra, Leon + Ruben Pater
Regular price €15,00
This zine documents 10 traditional Dutch sweets and explores their etymologies, the names of these sweets incorporate racial descriptors rooted in Dutch colonial history or other elements considered offensive in modern times, some names have been changed in recent times due to growing awareness and pushback from institutions fighting for social justice, though some names are still in use; needless to say: this book contains some antiquated language.
The semi translucent cover of the work somewhat resembles a candy wrapper while the red and blue printing gives the book a merry appearance that stands in striking contrast with the backstory of the sweets.
