“With Landfall, a large-scale art project in the public space of Amsterdam Zuidas, Hiryczuk/Van Oevelen unravel the ambiguity of our spatial surroundings. In a complex photographic installation the new territory of Surtsey, the youngest island in the world that emerged after a volcanic eruption off the south coast of Iceland, and Zuidas, a former marshland changed by human intervention into the new international business district of the Netherlands, are brought together in an unexpected way. This publication takes the project Landfall as a starting point for utopian, artistic, critical, philosophical and poetical reflections on large-scale urbanization, the relationship between man and nature, islands and the artificial landscape. In addition to the overwhelming panoramic photographs of Landfall specific contributions from the artists have been included, such as the logbook of their expedition to Surtsey, and a fascinating copilation of text and images from their extensive archive”, edited by Marente Bloemheuvel and Zsa-Zsa Eyck, with an introduction by Henk de Vroom, with texts by Mark Kremer, Sigurdur Thorarinsson, Helga Fassbinder, Gilles Deleuze and Tom Conley, text in Dutch and English, hard cover, 16 x 24 cm, 164 not numbered pages, n.p. 2011
