“The lead-up to the Taipei Art Book Fair 2026 was a blur of urgency and experimentation.
I was immersed in writing barrier-grid scripts and generating 7-frame loops, but everything felt too derivative of Takahiro Kurashima's Poemotion series, which I deeply admire. I almost gave up.
A week before the fair, I experimented with compressed sine waves. I figured that If I stepped away from the barrier-grid method, I might find something new. I noticed that the sine waves created patterns that felt self-similar even without an overlay. I then repeated an extremely thin triangle shape and to my surprise, a large triangle emerged! I'd stumbled into "Shape Moiré."
There's still a lot of magic to discover in moiré animation techniques.”
Consist of paper sheets with rhythmic patterns and a transparent plastic sheet with black bars printed on it; when the plastic sheet is slid across the paper pages a hypnotic animation effect occurs.

Loose folded sheets (28 x 21,5 cm folded) and a single printed-on sheet of transparent plastic (28 x 21, cm), 6 pages, 2nd ed., Chicago 2026
