The Best Day Of My Life

Enthoven, Tim

Regular price €22,00

Best Day Of My Life is an artist book by Tim Enthoven that obsessively zooms in on a small, apparently mundane interaction on a balcony and stretches it out over 44 pages. While it is initially clear that one person is reading a book, The Loser by Austrian author Thomas Bernhard, the precise relationship between the people, their identity, or even the nature of their interaction remains ambiguous. Contributing to this ambiguity is the fact that the artist hand-drew all the scenes in elaborately patterned wood. Only a few colorful diagrams break the scene’s suspense and give hints as to the precise relationship of the figures.

The book is part of an ongoing project in which Enthoven uses his experiences living in a commune (woongroep) to dissect the invisible power structures and interpersonal tensions embedded within everyday living spaces, situating them within a broader socio-political context. Through gestures, habits, and sudden events, architecture, and inhabitants shape one another continuously. Enthoven treats them as a singular body that closely mirrors the larger political body of the country.”
